Origin: At one time, Het Anker Brewery had a full range of beers, from simple table beers, through pils (lagers) to special top fermentation beers. The changing beer market and the rise of specialist “lager brewers” obliged Het Anker to concentrate its efforts during the sixties in brewing so called special beers in order to survive the big brewers’ aggressive ways. After 20 years the brewery felt that their offering a full range of beers was still important. So the family owners decided to launch locally a lager called “Ankerpils” following the old traditions. Ankerpils, brewed for the people of Mechelen.
