Brewed for the people of Mechelen ! Brewery ‘Het Anker’ decided to brew, especially for the people of Mechelen, a smooth drinkable city beer, still having enough body to be enjoyed to the full. This beer should be an alternative for the stronger Gouden Carolus degustation beers.After being tested thoroughly, the brewery has chosen for the ‘Maneblusser’: a 6% Alc.Vol. blond beer, brewed in accordance with the traditional method of top fermentation with refermentation in bottle. The nickname ‘Maneblusser’ spoke for itself... It all happened during the night of January 27th in the year 1687, when the moon projected its reddish glow on Saint Rumold’s Tower, which was wrapped in a fog. “Fire, fire … the tower is on fire !”, shouted the dreary voice of a drunken man into the night. The alarm-bell was sounded everywhere and every possible kind of extinguisher was brought to the fire.Buckets of water were passed from hand to hand along the stairs. But before the top was reached, the moon silently came through the fog and from then on the Mechlians are known by the name of ‘Maneblussers’ (Moon Extinguishers).
