Gouden Carolus Single Malt wins first place at The World Whisky Masters

At the international tasting competition “The World Whisky Masters”, Gouden Carolus Single Malt claimed a Master in the category “Europe – Single Malt Premium”.

“The World Whisky Masters” is one of the most renowned blind tasting competitions in the world, in which the spirits are assessed by an independent jury. According to the organisation, this edition proves that beyond the traditional whisk(e)y homes of Scotland, Ireland and the US you’ll find an exciting array of expressions that are bursting with quality. A large array of expressions awaited judges in the Europe – Single Malt Premium flight, where they discovered the first Master. Belgium’s Gouden Carolus Single Malt impressed with its “fresh” and “well balanced” character. “I loved this,” enthused Nick Bell, one of the judges. “It was big, rich and creamy, with notes of vanilla and apricot coming through.” Nick Bell is retail general manager of Amathus Drinks, a leading UK drinks importer and distributor. The organisation also published a Top 10 best value for money, where Gouden Carolus Single Malt is highlighted again.

On the whole, judges were pleasantly surprised by the level of quality on display, and were excited at the prospect of more varieties coming to market and challenging consumer expectations. As Tanner concluded: “Forget what you think you know about world whisky. There’s a whole world out there.”

The results of the competition can be found on line and are published in the monthly magazine “The Spirits Business”.

4th international recognition this year

For Gouden Carolus Single Malt, this is the 4th recognition at an international tasting competition this year. This Belgian whisky obtained a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, a gold medal at the International Spirits Challenge and obtained “Silver Outstanding” at the International Wine & Spirit Competition. Thanks to the various international awards, the reputation of this Belgian whisky is growing worldwide. As a result, Gouden Carolus Single Malt is gaining popularity in the international market.

“Whisky Infused” contributes to the popularity

Also the succes of “Whisky Infused” contributes tot he popularity of this Belgian whisky. In 2015, this special beer appeared as the first taste expression in the 'Gouden Carolus Indulgence' series. This is a series of limited beers produced every year with differing content. At the end of 2016, ‘Whisky Infused’ was named 'World's Best Spirit Flavoured Beer' at the World Beer Awards. By popular demand among our customers, the beer was then included in the regular range under the name Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Whisky Infused. This name was an obvious choice because the beer is created by adding an infusion of Gouden Carolus Single Malt whisky to the Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer. This results in a powerful, full-bodied beer with subtle hints of vanilla, oak and chocolate. At the relaunch during the recent Zythos Beer Festival, the visitors awarded the “Zythos Consumer Trophy” to this beer. In London, it was just announced that “Whisky Infused” once again won at the World Beer Awards.
