The brewery has been in the hands of the family Van Breedam since 1873, when Louis Van Breedam bought the brewery with his sister. In fact Louis Van Breedam had no brewery past. He had come from a `meulders dynasty’ that since the 17th century had a jenever distillery in Blaasveld. That family history made Charles Leclef, the fifth Van Breedam-generatie on the helm of the brewery, dream. How would the perfect marriage between both traditions, between distillery and brewery, taste? As a fine single malt whisky with the spirit of Gouden Carolus Tripel. In 2003, he let the beer distil to alcohol. After four years it is now time to taste. A whisky only gets its label after he has been able to mature three years and a day in a oaken barrel. Het Anker let his single malt lie yet a year longer. The wood determines the colour and the aromas of this particular beverage. The brewery preferred to respect and keep the natural colour. This whisky has been distilled on the basis of the malt seizure of the beer Gouden Carolus Tripel. This unique combination ensures a very balanced and pure taste, with several fruit and wood touches. Now recently the first versions of Belgian Whisky's have been brought on the market, a new Belgian tradition for the next generations is born thanks to Gouden Carolus Single Malt, to which Het Anker will build as the years pass by.
