Sales representative Horeca, The Netherlands
Michelle
Michelle has been working at Het Anker for four years in October 2024, and she still loves it every single day!
How did you come into contact with Brewery Het Anker?
About eight years ago, a few years before I applied, I was in Antwerp. At a large beer café, I had my first Gouden Carolus. While that wasn’t the direct reason for working at Het Anker, that moment always stayed with me. After hotel school, I went straight into hospitality and then into sales. I wanted to combine these two worlds, which led me to Het Anker. To this day, I’m very happy I chose a family brewery. At a large brewery, you’re one of many. Here, I’m just Michelle. Plus, you can contribute ideas, give your opinion, and be heard. A smaller team means you have direct contact with all colleagues and feel truly connected.
Is Belgian beer popular in the Netherlands?
Absolutely! Traditional styles are making a comeback: blonde, tripel, dubbel, and wheat beer. Dutch people are increasingly opting for simple beers, less for craft beers. Belgian breweries, in particular, stand out above the smaller Dutch ones. Maneblusser is currently very popular in and around the Randstad. It’s light, accessible, but very flavourful. The price is also good, which is important in the Netherlands (haha). Of course, it must match the quality.
“A small team ensures
a connected team.”
What is your favorite 'het anker' beer?
I’m a seasonal drinker, so in summer, I prefer lighter beers. Maneblusser is always my favourite then. But in winter, or on a grey day, I love drinking Gouden Carolus Whisky Infused.
Nothing compares to our Gouden Carolus Whisky Infused. The sweetness of the Gouden Carolus Imperial Dark, with its full flavours of dates and caramel, combined with our whisky that’s soft and subtle. It’s simply a beautiful marriage.
Where do you get your energy from?
I get a lot of energy from fairs and events. You get to interact with people who don’t know you or aren’t regular customers yet. When someone comes up to you and says, “Wow, you have great beer,” those are the moments I feel most energized.
And it happens very often!
