At Brewery and Distillery Het Anker, you’ll immerse yourself in five generations of award-winning craftsmanship in the heart of Mechelen. Discover our rich history, savour our interpretation of Flemish classics in our restaurant, and unwind in the unique atmosphere of our brewery hotel.
The Burgundians knew it well: for those seeking the good life, Mechelen is the place to be, and that remains true even 500 years later. At Het Anker, nestled in the historic ‘Groot Begijnhof’, you can savour the finest beers and whiskies that we’ve been crafting for more than five generations, for both Mechelen and the world.
Het Anker is a household name in Mechelen (and beyond), celebrated for its quality craftsmanship and deep local roots that stretch back to the 15th century. For five generations, the Van Breedam-Leclef family has safeguarded the legacy of our historic brewery, continuously preserving and enhancing our buildings while honouring their unique history and character.
Het Anker enjoys a prime location between Antwerp and Brussels, right off the E19. From the spacious Keerdok public parking, a scenic walk along the water takes you straight to our historic site. With excellent public transport connections, you can reach the brewery and distillery in no time, and we're just a short stroll or bike ride away from Mechelen's historic city centre. Plus, we're perfectly placed along many of the beautiful cycling routes in the Rivierenland region.
Batteliek is our unique microbrewery, micro-distillery, lemonade factory, and restobar, nestled along the Leuven-Dijle Canal, just a short distance from our historic brewery. Set in the former church of Battel, right by the water, it offers an experience like no other. Whether you come by bike, car, or public transport, you'll arrive in just a few minutes. The stunning architecture, delightful food, and innovative flavour experiments in both your glass and on your plate make every visit to Batteliek unforgettable, leaving you eager to return.
There is a lot to do at The Anchor, but above all, we are a brewery and distillery. So we need to make sure you are of age before we can show you everything from our website.
